Why did you decide to become an Academic Advisor?

I decided to become an academic advisor due to the support I have received from my own advisors and mentors during my time as a student at NMSU. As a first-generation college student with no prior knowledge of college life, I truly needed that guidance and was lucky enough to have amazing people supporting me throughout my college years. Because of this support, I have found myself in positions to help, tutor, and mentor students. I enjoy being a part of students’ journeys in reaching their academic goals, and I am happy to be an important resource for students as I have once walked the same path.

Tell me something about NMSU that you wish more students knew about.

I wish more students were aware of the vast amount of campus organizations and activities that you can participate in as well as the many ways you can become involved within the NMSU community. From intramural sports, to clubs and organizations, or student government, there’s always ways that everyone can be involved. Students should be aware of the importance of joining organizations to network, create life-long friends with similar interests, and make the best of your time at NMSU.
