Why/how did you decide what you wanted to major in in college?

I have always loved numbers! During a high school summer internship working for a small family-owned business, I learned a lot about business operations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. I really enjoyed my experience working there and decided to pursue a higher education in business because of the variety of career possibilities a business degree could lead to. After taking the core business courses at NMSU, I found my passion for the specializations in personal finance and banking.

Why did you become an Academic Advisor?

I became an Academic Advisor to help students explore their passions and aid them in reaching their goals. College is such a fundamental part of becoming an adult - not just the academic side but the socialization side as well. It is a time of great lessons and growth as a human being. I met so many influential friends and mentors in college who impacted my life greatly. I hope that as an advisor I can help students like my mentors helped me.

What extra/co-curricular activities did you participate in as an undergraduate?

In my freshman year, I was invited to be a member of an honor society that allowed me to meet other like-minded individuals, volunteer, and give back to my community. In my junior year, I also became a member (and later President) of the Financial Management Association. Being part of student organizations on campus pushed me out of my comfort zone and I learned a lot about myself. They helped me build social, academic, and professional networks. I strongly encourage students to find an organization that they are interested in (not necessarily associated with their major) and join in on the fun experiences!
