Biography

Corey Fisher is an Academic Advisor for Individualized Studies and Applied Studies. Corey is a two-time alumnus of NMSU, having earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Administration. During his time as a student at NMSU, he fell in love with higher education. He loves helping students uncover their dreams and figuring out how to achieve them!

When he’s not working with students, Corey enjoys spending time with his family, taking his dogs to the park, and tabletop gaming.

Why did you decide to become an Academic Advisor?

Exploring college can be a difficult or scary process, but it can also be incredibly exciting! Whether you are trying to figure out your passion, need help navigating through obstacles, or looking for classes for next semester, Corey wants to be there to make sure that you achieve your goals. As someone who would have benefited from a dedicated academic advisor, Corey is enthusiastic to be able to fill that role for others.

Why/how did you decide what you wanted to major in in college?

Corey started college confident in his career trajectory but was quickly proven wrong. He was too focused on external influences pushing him in different directions. After exploring a variety of STEM, humanities, and social science majors, Corey started parsing through what he was passionate about. Working for housing at NMSU helped him to realize how much he really enjoyed the field of higher education. From there, he easily decided to pursue Psychology to better aid with understanding, advising, and mentoring students.
