What extra/co-curricular activities did you participate in as an undergraduate?

As an undergraduate, I participated in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. NSCS is focused on leadership, scholarship, and service. I was able to participate in community service events and peer mentoring as well as having support and recognition for my academics. It was a great way to start networking.

Why did you become an academic advisor?

College is difficult enough when you consider that students are learning to navigate a new school, new responsibilities, and new freedoms. I believe all students are capable of learning requirements to complete thier college career but like most things in life, it is good to have someone to either support your choices or help you find a path you hadn't considered. Academic advisors are champions for thier students and I want to be a champion for each and every single student I interact with.

Did you face any challenges while in college?

I am a first-generation college student. My parents immigrated from Mexico and wanted the American Dream for their children. Since I didn't know what to expect, I had to learn a lot about college on my own. The best thing that I did for myself was to look for the resources that are available through the university.
