Hello, my name is Yajaira González! I grew up in El Valle de Arroyo Seco in northern New Mexico and graduated from Pojoaque Valley High School. In the spring of 2015 I graduated from New Mexico State University with two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Spanish. After graduation, I worked with La Casa, a non-profit organization that helps victims of domestic abuse as a Crisis Advocate. That experience made me realize that there is still a great need for mental health services and treatment in underrepresented communities such as this one. My involvement with this organization is what motivated me to come back to school and pursue a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health with the College of Education. I am very passionate about advocacy and know that New Mexico State University will give me the knowledge and skills I need to help my community move forward. I am excited to work with all of you and hope that New Mexico State University will provide you with a wonderful experience like it did for me! Go Aggies!
